Wind in the Willows

I made it to Toksook by snowmachine today. Thanks, Marty. It was cold with blowing snow but visibility was good and the ride was short. These pictures show the wind generators that got a lot of workout today and the drifts on Main St. in Toksook.

School was out for the day when I arrived here about 1:00. The inservice training for teachers was on cooperative learning and Kagan structure that use multiple intelligences. Can you name all 8? Also, this school is implementing "The Islander's Way" a positive discipline support model. Teachers are actively teaching social skills and students are being rewarded for "respectful, helpful, responsible and safe". The ideas is to teach students how to behave, not how not to behave. The emphasis is on teaching, so a child who doesn't comply needs another opportunity to learn. A real issue here is teaching students how to manage anger. I'll be doing some research on that.

Kerri, Jimmy and I had enchiladas, grapes and cookies and had a few laughs. The juice broke loose and dampened everything in my food box on the way over, but Kerri made some dynamite Tang. A pleasant, but quiet Friday night. We also got lots of work done.

I am planning to go to Mekoryuk tomorrow if the weather cooperates. If a plane comes in, but isn't taking me there, I'll go back to Bethel and home.

I get to sleep in tomorrow, then Jimmy is making pancakes. Yee-haw! Best yet.
