I've been in Toksook Bay all day working with kids, teachers, staff, and computers. Since I haven't been outside, I could be almost anywhere except now, when I look outside the sun is just setting at 9:45. The snow that was drifted over the school windows has been shoveled away so that kids don't get up on the roof. People are walking all around, enjoying the invigorating cold of a clear day.
I am planning on flying out at 9 am with Henry Simons who lives here and overnights here. He'll drop me off in Tununak on his way into Bethel in the morning if all goes well.
Kerri and Dirk really put me to work today, gathering data, teaching model lessons and working with kids. I ate lunch with the 5th graders- fish sticks, potato wedges, green beans and peaches. I had my beef tips Hormel dinner for my evening meal....I'm trying to lighten my load.
Last time I was here I was weathered in 2 extra days. Today, the powder snow is perfect for skiing according to Dirk. He skijors with his dog, Katya (see his blog to the right).
Toksook students are called the Islanders. Their positive behavior expectations are "be safe, be helpful, be respectful and be responsible". It's good to have a goal.

Hey Pat,
It's Carey out in Nunapitchuk. I hope you'll be coming this way to visit Debbie before the year is up!
I love the island schools!
