Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice
by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great

And would suffice.

These are pictures of the toxic ice fog hovering over Fairbanks- not creeping in on little cat feet, but suffocating the city like an elephant lying on a comfortable bed. I chose the poem because while we are gripped in the clutches of the polar winter, the news is ablaze with all the "fire" in the world, Gaza, Iraq and even Hoonah with its recent teenage suicide. And the 150th anniversary of Darwin's book, "Origin of the Species" is coming in February, making me speculate, "If there is really survival of the fittest, what must the losers have been like?"

Too much introspection? Let me just say that aquasize and a Taiwanese tea party this morning were refreshing. School is back in session here, although attendence on the 10th day of lower than -45 was poor. Keep warm.

Fashion tip of the day: Try Bunny boots, 2 pair of wool socks, long johns, heavy pants, snowpants, long john top, long sleeved shirt, wool sweater, parka with hood, hat, neck gaiter pulled up over your face, wool liners over warm mittens and you're good to go. Too bad you can't see where you're going!
