Back in Chi-Town

I took the train from New Buffalo, Michigan to Chicago.  The station was basically a bus shelter and a phone, but I already had my $9 ticket so it went seamlessly.  New Buffalo is a beautiful resort town next to Lake Michigan, about 90 minutes by train from Chicago.

That contrasts with the Four Wind Casino where my parents and I spent most of Sunday.  The facility is beautiful, but the clientele leaves much to be desired.  In the 6 hours I was there, I encountered more rudeness than I'd encountered the entire rest of my visit to the Lower '48.  I guess losing makes people cranky.  My feeling on gambling is that casinos are lavish because people lose more than they win.  People who gamble need to consider it for entertainment value and not as a way to make money.

I met my brother, Mike and his wife, Bonnie at the Atwood Cafe where I had a tasty chicken pie.  Downtown Chicago was a comfy 65 degrees and we sat outside.  The waiter asked me to move my bag from away from the rail so it wouldn't get stolen off the street.  Oh, yeah- city.  I took the Metro to Erin and Ron's.

Later, I went back downtown to meet Erin at the Lakeshore Athletic Club for aquasize class.  It kicked my skinny butt.  We used "noodles", "bands" and styrofoam barbells.  I thought torture is against the law.  Needless to say, in spite of my smaller size, I wasn't very fast at hopping the length of the pool with a band around my ankles and a noodle under my right knee.  The club was very posh.  Erin has a coupon book that she purchased that allows her guest visits to various athletic clubs in the area.  If she used them all, she'd be able to go 320 times, but she picks and chooses.  This club, right off the Miracle Mile, Michigan Ave. generally costs $110/mo. after the membership fee.  Good thing I bought a new swimsuit.  We were home by 8 pm to enjoy Ron's homemade Falafel and Tatsiki Sauce.

I've made mental lists of all the things I'll do when I get home.  Mostly, I'll visit friends.  I also have big plans to get out the bikes and ride around town.  I can't wait.
