Only when the wind blows

I went for a walk (twice) and when the warm wind blew, it was lovely.  When the wind didn't blow, the little no-see-ums got in my eyes, under my hat and everywhere.  I'm hoping for just enough wind.

I have to admit.  Today was quite boring.  All work and no kids.  I got ahead a little on lesson planning but it might be hypothetical because a) school might stay closed after the 7th.  TBD  and b) hunting season was extended until Sept 27 so even if school is open, will any kids come? and c) maybe the students are doing their work and maybe they are not...it's a crap shoot about where to start on the 8th.

I went over to the store and spent $11.15 and got one can of evaporated milk, 1 box of graham crackers and a bottle of Heinz relish.  The prices here are not outrageous like some stores in villages.  I was told that the workers are volunteers and the store is not for profit- just a service to the community.

Out of site are 3 freezers with the ever popular frozen burritos, some meat and an astonishing variety of frozen food.  Sadly, the only chips were salt and vinegar so I passed it by.  This store is in the same blue building as the Post Office and the Council offices.

They are getting a new deck but the kids prance across the bare floor joists.  It's a nice clean village- almost no trash blowing around.
A pretty little rocky beach around the slough side of the island.  I might do some beach combing.

Evidence of teenagers.  The children who used this hoop are all grown up and moved away.  Currently no teens in Stony River.  Our highest grade now is 7th.

I am seeing some evidence of the changing of the season.  The greens are giving way to some oranges and yellow. It's still warm but the darkness is also creeping up.  Has to happen.  The alternative is worse.

This shelf mushroom is enjoying the untouched woods.

It was a great gift that arrived today from Sue F who lives in Washington.  She and her friend Claudia sent this care package.  Sue made contoured masks for the students and both of us teachers.  And she and Claudia filled the rest of the package with much needed supplies.  These were especially welcome because Aniak is shut down pretty much and most mail and freight goes through there.  Thanks so much Sue!  Can't wait until we travel again.
