Day 2 in beautiful Stony River. I awoke to light rain and swallows working on the mosquitoes in the yard. They have a nest above the schoolyard light fixture.
Even though I'm quarantining, I went for a short walk around town. Here are some of my findings.
Right next to the school is a cemetery. It's in a beautiful woods. It's still being used as one of the graves is new. I'll need to find out more about this church, right next to the cemetery on the other side. I looked in and there are lights so it might be used. It appears to be Russian Orthodox, based on the top.
Looking down the main residential artery towards the airstrip. Nice and wide and well graded. I'm impressed. I haven't seen any cars or trucks so far, just 4-wheelers.
Village power- yep, power lines around town.
Parking along the main drag- the Kuskokwim River. If you Google Stony River, boaters on the river through the Lake Clark National Park take out here.
This blue building is called the Council Building. It contains the office of the village council, a small store, the clinic and the mail is distributed from here. Impressive vehicle out front!
This looks like people are recycling. I like it. We'll get the school to do it too.
Okay, the school apartments are uninhabitable right now. I remembered them as spacious and comfortable. So comfortable that they are now inhabited by bats. I thought they were rodents, which they aren't, but I was reminded that bats are the reason we are now terrorized by The Covid.
Bat photos for your enjoyment. Clinging to the stairs and swimming laps. Oops. No. All dead.
Thanks for reading.
