Sleetmute (Part deux)

I was only in Sleetmute from about noon on Saturday until after dinner on Sunday, but Angela rolled out the red carpet.

Here's the world class clinic.  Too bad no health aide right now.  I think availability varies.  In Stony River, the health aide is 2 weeks on, two weeks off.  Those health aides are hard working and unless they really advocate for themselves, they are always on call.   They have the technology and equipment to connect with a doctor and provide some very sophisticated interventions.
The school's greenhouse was built with Diabetes Association grant money a few years ago.  It is maintained by local volunteers and is heated by an oil stove for early and late growing.

Yum, yum!  Tomatoes!

Angela took us the 2 miles to end of the road to a gravel pit and the short trail to the outlook at Blueberry Hill.  It affords wonderful views of the forest and winding river.  We bicycled to the trail head and back and a pretty good road- gravel but well-graded.  The houses stopped about half-way to the trailhead.

The trail was a little slick from all the rain, but the only sign was moose (not bear) so we strolled casually.

Mary Poppins?  Nope.  Just me.

School (re)started today and the weather has taken a turn for autumn.   The kids seemed to enjoy PE inside on their yoga mats.  It was a great way to socially distance and still have their own turf.  They liked spreading them out after lunch to chat and laugh together without having to sit on the bleachers.

The maintenance guys were here today and installed bat deterrent, fixed some plumbing in the school and worked their way through a list.  The ultra-sound bat deterrent will take about a week to be complete so the apartment will be ready for the new teacher who will arrive soon!  Welcome M!

Tomorrow will be the last installment of Sleetmute photos.
