It's been almost 3 months since I've been out to Nunivak Island. (see Kale's blog). The wind is blowing hard and the drifts have totally blocked the road. I believe that there is no new snow- it's just recycled. I forgot my camera, so anything you get on this blog is from my computer camera.
See Char- she and I flew in together from Fairbanks this morning, as did Debbie. She is heading out to Kongiginak and Quinhagak and we'll be meeting up for the Camai Festival in Bethel on Friday afternoon.
When I arrived at Grant Aviation today, this flight was on hold. It left on time though, so I already breathed a sigh of relief. The pilot, Ben, read a book all the way here which made me a little nervous, but the navigational equipment was operating fine so I supervised from the back seat. There was a clear view of Toksook Bay below us as we flew over which is a great foreshadowing for tomorrow.
I can remember once flying out of Ketchikan trying to get home to Meyers Chuck when the new pilot asked everyone to look out the window for a logging camp in a little bay. He pulled out a map the size of a large book with the entire state on it. He finally landed (on his pontoons) in a small bay and asked a fisher from an anchored boat where he was. Turns out he was on the wrong side of Prince of Wales Island. His passengers were very nervous, including me, and I was just hoping I'd get back before dark.

You two have a mischievous look in your eyes! I hope the weather holds up for the rest of your trip. Spring my butt!
Dear Mom,
Yes, The recycled snow! I have the same idea about the scooters here in Taipei, that there are actually only about 150 of them that surround me at all times. Like a single rain cloud above Charlie Brown. But in this case, they're coming from all directions at varying speeds.
Love, Ben
