Rushing the Season?

Yes, we really went camping last night, trying out our new Hennesey Hammocks. We have always tent camped, but have read and heard great things about "hanging", so we bought the 2 hammocks. We used our closed cell foam pads inside and silk bag liners with our 15 degree bags and I was quite comfy in the 30 + degree temps. Paul was less comfortable, but the pad wasn't wide enough for him, so he wished he could give away "the cold shoulder".

I discovered 1) don't try to put a duffle bag inside with you 2) get into the liner first, then wiggle into the sleeping bag, and 3) trying to slip something out or in the hammock while you are lying inside is much like giving birth- possible, but not without some discomfort and some creative physics.

Paul discovered 1) small black cords are difficult to see with trifocals 2) don't drink too many liquids before hammock sleeping and 3) you can still hear snoring from a nearby hammock.

We had a great little campfire and watched and listened to huge chunks of ice moving SW on the Chena River. We ate hot dogs and chips and iced tea and hot chocolate, but headed into Lulu's for our Sunday cinnamon roll.

The other thing we did yesterday was put up the Sam's Club greenhouse. He is planning to grow corn, peppers, tomatoes and cantaloupes inside. Our plants liked it outside yesterday in 50 degrees, but I think it's still too cold out for 24/7.

I'm still working, so I'll have more Fairbanks news. I've emptied my yellow waterproof bag and might just throw it out. I'll miss you Kotzebue, Deering, Buckland, Nunapitchuk, Atmautluak, Tununak, Toksook Bay and Mekoryuk but you know where to find me!

We'll miss you too, Pat. I'm so jealous that you're already camping. I had to giggle for a bit about your birthing comment. :-)

We have 4 weeks of school left! So much to do yet! I like your advice column about end of the year wrap-ups. I should copy it before you change it to something else.
