Today we had a yummy breakfast at our usual breakfast place (having Ni ja, Don bing, Ju Ro Hambao, Shu bing) then walked to the elevated subway to ride to Maokong where we took the Gondola 4 km to the top. We had Oolong tea and chatted looking out over the smoggy city. We met some great people in the gondolas and everyone felt sorry for us since we looked so disheveled and sweaty. The "Teamaster" served as he saw fit.
On the way down, we stopped at an enormous Buddhist temple. People burn fake money to bring good luck. We had a great conversation about the role of belief (superstition) and culture.
At the bottom of the gondola, right by the entrance to the zoo, we stopped and had a Big Mac at "you know where". The menu is almost the same, but side dishes include corn soup and chopped fruit. Also, one of the chicken sandwiches is on rice bread. The place was clean and cool and very busy.
