Ben lives right down a few lanes from a night market. During the day, the same streets have fruit vendors, household goods and electronics. At night though, the center of the streets fill up with vendors on carts and the side shops are transformed into small restaurants and shops of glitzy goods.
We met some of his friends from work, Monica, Anna, Peggy and Carl and sampled the delights. In the photo, Ben is eating a large beef steak in gravy with an egg and veggies which cost about $5 USD. Paul and I had $1.50 USD chicken cutlets, otherwise known as "large fried chicken" which I didn't come anywhere close to finishing. Carl stopped for anything sweet and fried. Paul ended up taking the advice of the girls and buying a large red wristwatch. They were really pleased at his compliance and he is hoping to be a trendsetter when he gets back to ARSC. I hope I can switch out my seat on the plane.
Although the hygiene is questionable, the variety and selection is fantastic and the streets are teeming with families and teens and everyone else.
