The lights are on, but no one is home at the Ft. Yukon School, home of the Eagles. Check out the book Eagle Blues if you want the skinny on life in the Fort. Not everyone here liked the book, but most grudgingly admit that it is true.
The sky was quite gray today and the snow that packed into a great projectile yesterday would kill someone today. The snow artists are lamenting the short lives of their snow people.
This is a Ft. Yukon dogyard. You can smell it and hear it long before you see the dogs, carefully camouflaged amongst the blue tarps and machinery.
My lament of the day: I think I've seen some progress (at least 8 days worth) in student essays, but when they took a practice exam today, the results were dismal. Which is more important... writing with voice and ideas or choosing conventions from a list of 4 to correct someone else's writing. Oh, well. They would pass a test that I devised of practical life skills of writing, but I'm no longer sure about their ability to test on disconnected, unrelated items.

Hi! I love your blog. I'm a senior education just dying for the chance to teach in Alaska. I've been researching cities and villages for the past several months and am really leaning toward Bethel. Any thoughts?
