What did you do today?

Today was a busy one. I was at KUAC, the public radio station answering phones for about 3 hours. I only answered the phone about 6 times, but I knew about half of the callers. Everyone's pretty generous. I wanted to add my own comments about too much classical and not enough folk music, but restrained myself.

Then I went over and worked for a few hours at the Yukon Quest Office. They're moving downtown along the river to the old log cabin visitor's center building the first part of November. YQ is not really my cause, but a friend asked me to help them out, so I worked for a few hours.

Paul and I met for a burrito dinner at the University Wood Center before I met some potential cabin renters out at our property. We listed it on Craig's List and we've had quite a few calls. It seems like there are lots of places for rent in the paper and I know that house values have dropped.

The temps have been in the single digits the last few days so I've broken out the neck gaiter and snow pants. It always takes a few days to remember that above zero isn't cold yet. Good news on Alaskan glaciers though- last year the icefields actually increased instead of decreased due to cold temps and lots of snowfall. A temporary reprieve on ice calving.

I'm cleaning out the basement and I've hauled about 10 trash bags full of stuff so valuable I've kept it for about 5 years. It helps if I don't spend too much time looking through it. If I haven't needed it in 5 years, I probably don't need it now. I found good homes for my geoboards, MathCounts books, origami and construction paper and I've filed some great irreplaceable resources for my "consulting" business. Old algebra tests and prealgebra math centers are taking a one-way trip out the door.

I've rearranged my trip to SE Alaska for next week. I can't go to Yakutat- they are having inservice, but Angoon and Hoonah will be totally fun. I'll be posting some good pics I hope.
