Parallel Play

Our son is visiting from Taipei, Taiwan. It's been a secret for months, so I used the alibi of shopping for gifts and picked him up at the airport. When he knocked on the door of the house, my husband said, "What are you doing here?". Happy birthday!

The snow graders were out trying to keep up with the snow on the streets. They do a mighty fine job and entertained the Rozell boys who were home today feeling peeky. I couldn't help noticing the coincidental two pieces of heavy equipment driven by guys and two computers driven by father and son. The first stage of children playing "cooperatively" is parallel play- about 3 years old. You can expect children at that age to play similar games near or next to each other, but not really sharing or taking turns. I wonder how long that stage lasts?

I'm shifting my writing attention over to my trail journal. I hope you've visited mine lately. Lots of my free time has been spent reading, writing, prepping and thinking about our big AT hike. I hope you'll consider hiking a piece of it with us if you live anywhere along the corridor. I'm taking names and numbers of friends, family and acquaintances along the Trail who might not mind a call as we walk nearby.

Christmas shopping is really minimal this year. Not only have I cut back because there are no more little ones, but I am also cutting back in sympathy to those who have just lost their jobs. In turn, I'll be more generous to local charities...like Santa's Clearinghouse and students living in the Girls and Boys Home.

Here are some gift ideas for those that are aging against their will:
chin strap to help tone up the unsightly sagging
megaphones and bullhorns to aid in spousal communication
pills for improving your memory
Adding hair
Removing unwanted hair
organize and write it down

No, kids....I don't need any of these things...I don't think so, anyway.
