Back in the Smokies

Just a reminder that GarageMan is still on the Appalachian Trail after hiking 1301 miles. He plans to finish at the end of August. Click on the map to the right to read his trail journal which I am updating based on his emails.

I bungee-d a crate to my bike and rode to the dump with one measly bag of trash. The dumpster divers were out in full force enjoying the really free market. The added weight of the trash and the crate took some getting used to, but it was a great day to go car-less. My errands took me to the Fairgrounds to apply for a job as a cashier and to volunteer. I met Annette, the operations manager, who said she'd give me a call next week. I took books back to the library and set up playdates for myself with Pam tonight and Gretchen on Thursday. I finished up my bike hike with a trip to Northern Threads where I bought some fabric for my quilt project. My ankle is bumpy but painfree so I have no excuse- I need to start getting out more.

The smoke in the air continues to be the price of sun around here. It hasn't rained in awhile, but my tomato plants are enjoying the frequent watering and the warm temps. Even my currant bushes are rewarding me with lots of berries.

Here are some fun things I'll be doing this week:
Wednesday night at 7 in the Schiable Auditorium: "Dave Payer, ecologist with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, will share his expertise and experience floating the rivers of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. "

Thursday night at 7 is Othello at the outdoor theater. It's pay as you can or pay "as you like it" with 2 cans of food for the food bank. Click for a link to read it online.

Friday and Saturday I'll be working a garage sale in North Pole- selling, not buying.

There's still lots of twitter about the late and grating Gov Palin- apparently she's trying to step on the blogs speculating on her true motive for quitting. Although Shannyn Moore is way off base someone should tell Sarah that quitting because of legal costs to the state and then threatening legal action is hypocritical at the least. Besides, as far as I know, the first amendment has not been repealed, inspite of Bush's best efforts.

Hey Pat! I just saw the recipe for Bacon Explosion on your blog. I subscribe to a podcast called Gardenfork and Eric, the host, just made Bacon Explosion. It was quite an interesting concoction. You should check the podcast out...you might like it.

I'll give you a call soon so we can get together. Macy is in town as well and is being babysat by a nice woman out on the Hot Springs road.

Talk to you soon!
