Rural v. Bush

President Obama is sending 4 cabinet members to Alaska on a listening tour on August 12...they are going to Bethel. I hope they wear hats and bring bug dope. They should get an ear and an eyeful. In the opinion of many health officials and policy advisors, Alaska is a third world country.

Today was a bicycle day. My shin swelled up again and turned bruise colored bluish after several hours of errands on the bike, but I left the car at home. Sue claims I injured my shin going back and forth to the tables at the "all you can eat" buffets while on the Appalachian Trail. I checked out the new iPhone and discovered that it would almost double our monthly obligation (for 2 years) to become a 2 iPhone family. I'll have to think about that.

I managed to volunteer to help at the KUAC Red/Green Regatta on July 26...that will be a first. I'll be helping with traffic and I hope I get a badge and some authority. I'll clean up that road rage. I am also helping Sue with a garage sale next Friday and Saturday. Come out to North Pole, across from the Middle School and buy stuff.

I haven't really been using my free time very effectively yet. Mostly visiting and using the computer. I need to get some projects going soon. Tomorrow I'm doing yardwork, starting to write my first play and planning out a quilt. I also might go with some friends out to Chena Lakes if it's hot. That should help with using my time. I just can't get used to being alone and retired. I still don't regret leaving the trail half way done. The afternoons were way too long!

Hey Pat,
Hope that your enjoying your summer in Alaska! Sorry to read about you hurting your ankle. I hope that it's feeling better now. Things are going well here in NC. I don't know if I told you or not, but Jimmy and I decided to buy our first home and we really love it! Hope that you have a wonderful 4th.

Kerri- it's wonderful to hear from you! NC was beautiful on the AT, but too hot for my liking. My ankle will recover but I'm having trouble staying off it. Send your email address to me so I can email you directly. Pat
