2/3rds of a Triathalon and Thanks!

On Wednesday, we grubbed up finishing the cleanup of the TV room, our deadline being Thanksgiving. We drove out in the single digit weather to the pool where we swam an energetic 27 double lengths (3/4ths of a mile). When we came out into the sunshine, we discovered that an un-named driver forgot to turn off the headlights and the battery was dead.

Snap! We walked home to pick up the truck. Well, we did stop off at KFC for lunch and warmth since I lost feeling in my thighs and I still needed them to walk the rest of the way home. Upon arriving back at the pool parking lot, we pushed the car out of its spot into the parking lot so that the jumper cables would reach. The gal in the car next door had been busy on her cell phone, so she jumped out and wondered why we didn't let her out? So, we pushed it back again. She backed out and we pushed back into charging position. Paul had to pry off the cap with his key, but that good ol' red stinky started right up. So, add it up- swim 3/4 of a mile, walk about 3.5 miles home in 5 degrees, push the car back and forth a few times in the parking lot. Sounds like a triathalon to me. At least a Gray Panther version.

Thanksgiving was great. The menu (which is living on for a few more days) was turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, candied yams, jello with bananas and mandarin oranges, salad, corn, homemade dinner rolls, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, pumpkin and apple pie, wine and assorted juices. The cranberry sauce was made from berries I picked this summer. Shoutout to the Ehnerts, John, John and Nathan for joining us. Not to get sappy, but we have a pretty good life.

Our 2 kids called. Ben went to Hong Kong and stayed at the Honshu Hong Kong Mansion for his birthday weekend. He was born on a Monday (26 years ago), I was released from the hospital on Wednesday with him and we flew immediately by small plane into Old Harbor. There was a storm coming and he kept flying up into the air so I kept a good grip on him. The staff Thanksgiving dinner was Thursday. He played Jesus in the Christmas play about a week later. He showed talent even then.

Erin and Ron had carryout dinner from The Diner in Chicago- pumpkin ravioli and all the fixin's. Thanksgiving isn't the favorite holiday of vegetarians. She said there was no pardon for the soybean yesterday.

We missed Black Friday today. Or, I guess we didn't miss it. We don't go out to compete for the honor of spending $$. I suppose if we really saw something we needed at an extreme discount we might. But not this year.
