Resurrection

Today was filled with Spring. We walked up to coffee shop (not our usual one) for a cinnamon roll and frou-frou drinks- shaken, not stirred. Paul accidently bought the Anchorage paper instead of Fairbanks, but as he once said, "Nothing much happens on a holiday".

We brunched on frittata and fruit at Pilon's watching about 12 kids hunting for Easter eggs, cleverly hidden in the snow. Maybe I'm disremembering, but when our kids were little, they dyed eggs and eggs they hunted were real chicken eggs, not plastic ones filled with toys and chocolates. I know the Bunny brought non-edibles as much as possible- coloring books, small toys, books, etc. Anyway, there was even $$ in these eggs. AND, some of the chocolate wasn't even brown. What's with that.

We drove out to the Elliott estate to check out roads for slush. The road was fine- still mostly frozen, but we almost got stuck where we pulled off into the right of way. Note to self: pack a shovel. It looks like we'll be going back out there several times this week before a complete thaw with loads for construction- 20' 2 x 12s and plywood T&G for the floors, and the ever popular insulation. I'm thinking hot dogs on a campfire after several hours of hard labor. The 4-wheeler should be okay on the trail because the snow isn't deep. If worse comes to worst, we'll just offload and drag the vehicle around and leave.

We went for a long walk in the sunshine. I overheated in my Carhardtt jacket. My rant of the day is watching a man and his wife and two kids out walking together. The guy crumpled up a beer can and tossed it into a snowbank. Then he hollared "F... it!" to another guy who was just heading the other way that he apparently knew. If you've ever seen Mediocrity, you know what I mean when I say, it's not the future- it's today.

I finished the book, "Sarah's Key". It really sucked me in with parallel stories of the a French Jewish girl who was rounded up by the French police and sent off to die and a present day journalist wondering what happened to her. I'm not telling you more- just that I read it in 4 hours while sniffling on the couch.

Dinner tonight were new recipes- check the Food for Thought side bar. The menu was meatball kebobs, sweet potato fries, steamed asparagus and fruit. Yum.
