The second day in a row of record breaking cold. -41. Just bragging rights for Northerners. Right now it eclipses wars, hunger, climate change (ironically) and even politics. I could be standing in front of a moose and if another Alaskan approached, I'd be required to say, "It's really cold today, innit?" It would be especially appreciated if I had on a face scarf or mask that was well frosted and only my eyes making me recognizable. All this talk about "it's a dry cold"?....-41 is really cold.
I'm on jury duty for the 7th day in a row. Just today, me and another jurist were talking about the old days when sub -40 were the norm. Remember frost shields on the windows? Remember draining the oil out of the truck every night and bringing it in to keep it warm? Remember running the VWs 24/7? Remember when extension cords were as brittle as spaghetti? Remember when you dared your friends to pee outside to see if the pee froze before it hit the ground? Those were the good old days- warm gingerbread, wood stove and no cell phones.
About the trial...deliberation continues tomorrow. No more news.
We went to a talk tonight by Ed Plumb on Interior hot springs. It really got us thinking about doing some local exploring. Maybe as early as this Spring. We'd sure like to go to Tolovana Hot Springs. We could even go during the week. It's an 11 mile hike in, up and over a fairly steep mountain. Makes us think more about snowmachines. Anyway, it's on our wish list. As is Hultana (sp?).
We cancelled the tailgate party for hockey this weekend. Two weeks ago, we had brats, hot chocolate and warm potato salad off our tailgate in the parking lot with friends. It was a balmy 15 degrees and we had a great time. My husband had the bright idea of doing it before every Saturday game. I think -35 is too cold for a bonfire. But that's just me.
We walked yesterday at the Big Dipper- 4 miles around the track. If this blingin' jury duty gets over in time, I'm going to bundle up and walk outside again. Saturday for sure.
