Walking the Icy Streets

So, I'm home this month for jury duty.  It's sort of planned leisure, although my to-do list is very long and not so interesting.  I have managed, so far, to go to a play (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf), a musical (Annie) and dinner (Visitor and Convention Center Volunteer dinner) and handed out candy for Halloween- shout out to the dragon, the ballerina princess and Robin (the Rozells) and the various costumed Pilons as well as the dozen odd neighbor kids who braved the zero temps.

We (Paul and I) decided to walk all the streets in Fairbanks this winter.  We went on our 3rd walk today.  So far, we walked around University West, around Taku Subdivision and today we walked between Cowles and Barnette and 9th and 1st Ave and a little more.  We've walked about 16 miles total.

It was about -5 today with light snow, but it was great to get out.  The route planning has been interesting- a little lesson in discrete math.  What do you wear when walking at -5?  Wool tights, loose blue jeans, lined boots, a turtle neck shirt, a Zip-T from Mountain Hardwear and a parka with a hat and gloves.  It's always tricky- being warm but not sweaty.
