I made it into Toksook Bay. I accidently fell asleep on the plane on the way from Bethel to Toksook and when I awoke, I was in a cloud with zero visibility. Unfortunately, it was all around and we were landing. I didn't see the runway until a split second before we landed. As usual in tundra villages, there were about 10 snowmachines there in the snow meeting the plane. The 9 passengers disembarked with all their gear and watched a Hageland plane do the same kind of landing. We were all given rides with our gear to our destinations- I went up to the school in time to watch some PE and art. The truck from the YKHC (health corp.) charges $5 for non-employees to ride from the airport. Not very neighborly!
My collaborating teachers and I have already spent hours working including a pleasant skype communication. We are looking at homework.com assessments and figuring out how to maximize learning by honing in on the needed standards.
We also found time for a brisk walk around the village and enchiladas, grapes and cookies for dinner.
The schools are always a hotbed of activity in the evenings. Tonight there are 2 smoke alarm guys who told me that they were going to set off the alarms for 10 minutes some time tonight. I'm waiting up for it but it is almost midnight so I hope they hurry. Never a dull moment.
My schedule is all messed up. I hope to get to Tununak tomorrow by snowmachine (about 6 miles). The principal will find someone from the school to drive me. From there, I can either try to get to Mekoryuk or Atmau. Maybe I can do both if I stay an extra day. I guess I'll have to wait and see about the weather.
