Happy New Gear!

Predictions #2

The new year rolled in despite our desperate attempts to slow time. Instead of walking up, we slackers drove up and parked amongst the kids on the bridge overlooking the fireworks. The show went on for about 20 minutes- one direction the pyrotechnics, to the other the big, bright, blue moon. We hopped back in the car with warm hearts and frozen feet.

Paul refused to make any resolutions- as a matter of fact, he resolved not to make any, but I like the self-imposed deadline for goal-setting. This coming year will be a busy one. I have at least 3 good hiking opportunities planned- in February to the Grand Canyon with Desert Fox, from May-August on the AT, and in October (tentatively) in Hawaii maybe down to Hana from Haleakala. Concurrently, Paul and I are both eating more healthy- we are having salad bar for lunch (choosing from lettuce, spinach, bell peppers, olives, baby corn, cheese, croutons, tomatoes, bacon bits, Krab, hard-cooked eggs, mushrooms) and baking our own bread.

In addition, personally, I want to get started on both quilting and knitting. I've started both with very minimal progress. I also want to continue my micro-philanthropy- tutoring, volunteering, strategically donating. And, maybe this is the year I write my play. I might get more politically involved....like the old days.

We're looking forward to the visit from Kate, our 22 year old niece, in February. She's a babysitter extraordinaire, or so I've heard, so make a note and email me. She's taking a break from her life in NY to come up and regroup. We'll have a short visit time before she housesits.

The whirlwind January work is starting on Sunday when I leave (again) for Hooper Bay. This month consists of 4 weeks of travel spaced with short weekends of laundry and grocery shopping. The $$ will come in handy for the summer.

Always inspiring, Pat. I'm intrigued by the idea of micro-philonthopy and incorporating that into more of my thinking. It places the focus on relationship with the actual people who benefit from your giving, rather than a faceless charity.

Looking forward to meeting Kate. If there is anything we can do for her while she is her, please us know.
