Don't get me wrong. I love a good small town parade. In Haines, the parade went around the route twice because it was such a short line. But today's Golden Days Parade was really lame (and it took 2 hours). There were really only 4 categories of participants.
By far, the largest amount of the parade was people loosely affiliated with each other wearing the same t-shirts and walking in close proximity. Not doing much except maybe handing out leaflets and/or candy.
The next category was politicians and their people doing the same as the above. Because the primary is next month, no one dared to stay home.
The next largest category consisted of vehicles- lots of vehicles....tractors, old cars, stock cars, scooters, race cars. The drivers had more fun than the observers for sure.
The final category was the actual, honest to goodness reason people come to a parade- 2 clowns, some marching bands, animals in funny costumes, themed floats. Unfortunately, this was a very small part of the parade.
I went with the Pilons, which included their 4 kids. They liked it, mainly because of the candy. They ate and took home bags of it. Ben commented that he was tired of sitting. Yep, I concur.
I spent the rest of this rainy day eating, reading, using the computer, visiting with people I met and talking on the phone. In other words, I better get out and exercise tomorrow. The Mus-A-Mun (light curry stew) at the Lemon Grass was delicious for dinner and I saw Susie and Bruce and Tony there.
Tomorrow I will be more active. I plan to bike down to see the Red-Green Duct Tape Regatta on the Chena River and then go the outdoor Shakespeare Theater to see Measure for Measure. In between, I'll be picking flowers off the potato plants and working on curriculum alignment for the state EED. And, one of these days, I need to clean out my backpacking stuff and put it away.
Shout out to Virginia! Are you going to be 60 this week? Wow! That's really old!
